St. Petersburg is located on the Gulf side of Florida, approximately midway down the coast. St. Petersburg shares a peninsula with Clearwater, 20 miles northwest, and to the east, across Tampa Bay, is Tampa. To the west, Boca Ciega Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway separate St. Petersburg from a line of narrow keys that lies offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. Four causeways link St. Petersburg with these beach communities.
