G e o g r a p h y
Denver, the "Mile High City" and capital of Colorado, is in the central part of the state approximately ten miles east of the Rocky Mountains. The city virtually sits on a level plain. Topography of this region varies from the plain, at an elevation of 5,280 feet above sea level, to rolling hills and forested mountains. Cherry Creek Reservoir is just a few miles southeast of the city limits; there are about 30 other lakes and reservoirs in this area.

The Denver Metro Area covers seven counties (Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Denver, Douglas, Jefferson and Park) and has a population over two million.

Mild. The wind is lessened by proximity of the mountains, which also have a moderating effect on the climate. Average temperatures range from 16°F to 88°F. Average annual precipitation totals approximately 16 inches of rainfall and 60 inches of snowfall.
