HOMELAND
SECURITY PROJECT
Garden
Grove, CA., January 13, 2003—O’Neil Relocation
Completed Contract to Deliver Security Systems to over 400 Airports
Nationwide.
It was late
August when the fax machine in the Transportation Services department
received the request for service, which began with the words, “Would
you be interested in quoting eleven hundred truckloads at approximately
25,000 lbs. per load over the next twelve to eighteen months?”
In
view of the current economic conditions of the summer of 2002, it
was like a note from heaven. We responded with a resounding, almost
yelling, “Yes, Yes!”
Over the next
few weeks, we met with our Logistics team to develop our implementation
strategy and plans. Several calls were made to Unigroup and we solicited
input from Vice President Stan Eisen, on the best approach for equipment
utilization of our two Van Lines resources.
By late September,
things were beginning to take shape. The contract with Boeing was
in place and signed, and the Homeland Security Project was officially
started. At this time, we had partnered with Donovan Mayflower to
assist the local manufacturer with warehousing of the new airport
x- ray/bomb
detection equipment. This East Coast warehouse began to fill up
as fast as the West Coast warehouse in Fremont, California. The
average value per system was one million dollars and by early November,
we had over three hundred truckloads in each facility. Due to security
issues and manufacturer specs, both facilities used special resources
to ensure the safe handling, which included a twelve thousand pound
forklift and an inventory tracking system for manufacturers, models
and serial identification numbers.
To provide this
real-time data and 24/7 access to information for Boeing, O’Neil
Relocation used the Internet application of E-Services Resource
Group and their Event Management Application. Boeing staff utilized
the application to initiate requests for shipments twenty-four hours
a day, seven days a week using E-Services’ wireless application
for the transactions.
Then, on December
1st, things moved very rapidly as the congressional deadline of
December 31st seemed to loom near.
The
logistics teams from Siemens, Raytheon and Boeing were working around
the clock (literally) at the Homeland Security Logistics Headquarters
in Richardson, Texas. O’Neil Relocation made the commitment
to supply staff, and two members of our team began their on-site
tour.
By this time,
we had safely shipped over 305 truckloads. With the sheer volume
of 10, then 20, and even up to 40 truckloads in a day, the staff
at Special Services at Unigroup stepped in with 100% Commitment.
Many were working after hours, on the weekends and receiving calls
at all hours of the night. It is noteworthy to mention that almost
every shipment was delivered after 11:00 pm, to each airport.
In view of the
team effort and the commitment of many of the Special Services staff,
it was appropriate that on February 4th, we honored the department
with a plaque for the accomplishment of such a challenging project
known as, “Homeland Security”.
The challenges
of Homeland Security is reflected in these facts:
- In 45 days,
we delivered 793 truckloads.
- From December
6th through December 31st, we delivered 435 truckloads.
- The total
shipment value exceeded 793 million dollars.
- We had only
3 missed deliveries (1 due to bad weather, 1 breakdown, and 1
lost).
- We performed
over 700 local pick-ups.
This was accomplished
with the team of United agents, Mayflower agents, and Van Operators
from both Van Lines.
All of this
was done with a systematic, synchronized approach and implementation
was executed by Special Services at Unigroup working with the Transportation
Services team from O’Neil Relocation Garden Grove, California.
There is something
to be said for teamwork, “When you work as a team, you can
accomplish what seems like the impossible”, Dennis Allsopp.
Regardless
of the sheer volume, the weather conditions, or the timing of the
holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas, we can be proud of our accomplishments
together. The Homeland Security Airport Project was successfully
completed on time.

Garden Grove,
CA., June 5 --
O'Neil Relocation hosted the first Distribution Logistic Partner
Seminar. The recent partner agreement, between Nortel and O'Neil
Relocation, required the need to enact a DLP (Distribution Logistics

The one day

service, equipment and certification standards required to become
a DLP. To demonstrate the magnitude of handling and safety requirements
of the muti-million dollar equipment, O'Neil Relocation had a crane
and rigging exhibit on display.
As a result,
the first DLP seminar brought together 13 Agent's Senior Management
and operations team from across the country. To celebrate the success
of the seminar, O'Neil Relocation christened the first trailer painted
with the combination single stacked United and O'Neil Relocation
dedicated to Nortel Networks. The
seminar was a positive step in continuing to build on the need to
